This comes from me working out multiple times a day and always striving to be the best I can be. Also, I couldn’t have done it without the rest of my teammates encouraging me and helping me become a better player and believing in me.* How has your coaching staff at Calvary Christian influenced your development as a defensive back?Nelson Sparrow: My first time ever playing corner in football was my sophomore year, and I’ve come a long way because of the Calvary coaching staff. I have been able to learn a lot from these coaches, and the coaches that helped develop me as a corner were Coach Martin and Coach Jones. I feel like Calvary has the best of the best coaching staff in town.* Can you describe a memorable play or moment from last season that you feel encapsulates your approach to the game?Nelson Sparrow: I would say my most memorable moment last season was beating Berkeley Prep and having a pick to seal the game off.* As one of the top prospects in the county, how are you preparing for the transition to college football, and what are your goals for the future?Nelson Sparrow: I am looking forward to staying consistent and growing both physically and mentally as a player, and hopefully one day I will be able to play in the NFL.*What advice would you give to younger players who aspire to reach your level of success in high school football?Nelson Sparrow: My advice would be to make sure you build a relationship with God. God is the foundation for not only sports but also in the classroom. If you want to play in college, make sure that you are keeping your grades up and not playing in the classroom. From a football standpoint, always be willing to work. Some days you may not feel like doing anything, but if you want to be great, you are going to work even when you don’t feel like it. A coach once told me, “You either like football, or you love it.” If you like football, you will play and be satisfied with that, but if you love football, you will always be willing to work and work on your craft.

How do you leverage your physical attributes to dominate your position as a linebacker?****A:** My size definitely helps, but it's more about how you use it. I focus on my agility and speed to make sure I can react quickly to plays. Strength training is also a big part of my routine to ensure I can tackle effectively and hold my ground against bigger opponents.**Q: As a sophomore, you've already become a staple of the Pinellas Park defense. How do you handle the pressure and responsibility that comes with being a key player on the team?****A:** It can be a lot of pressure, but I try to stay focused on what I can control. My coaches and teammates are always there to support me, which makes a big difference. I take it one game at a time and try to lead by example both on and off the field.**Q: What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced during your football career, and how have you overcome them?****A:** One of the biggest challenges has been balancing schoolwork with football. It's tough to manage both, but time management and staying organized have helped a lot. Another challenge is staying mentally tough through injuries and tough losses, but having a strong support system helps me push through.**Q: Looking ahead, what are your personal goals for the next season, and how do you plan to continue improving your game?****A:** My main goal is to help my team win as many games as possible and hopefully make it to the playoffs. Personally, I want to improve my tackling technique and increase my speed.
