Mason Starke Headlines PHMG Media All-County 1st & 2nd Team

Senior Mason Starke showed up big for Seminole on both offense and defense showing up in the Top 3 in multiple categories statistically. He headlines our All County Team along with other greats.

Senior Mason Starke of Seminole High School stands out as the headliner of this year’s PHMG Media All-County 1st & 2nd Team, earning his place as one of the county’s top dual-threat athletes. As both a dominant running back and an elite defensive back, Starke has epitomized excellence on the field, rushing for over 1,000 yards and tallying six interceptions while leading his team to an impressive 8-2 record.

For Starke, success stems from his team-first mentality and unwavering commitment to excellence. “It feels incredibly rewarding to be recognized as a top player in the county,” Starke shared. “I play both sides of the ball because I’m a team-first player and do what the team needs to succeed.” A self-proclaimed creature of habit, Starke credits his consistent game-day routine—starting with Tropical Smoothie before games and Miller’s Ale House after—for helping him stay focused.

Seminole High’s success also stemmed from the efforts of key players like senior Collin Cervoni, who contributed over 16 total touchdowns, two interceptions, and served as a game-changer on both sides of the ball. On defense, sophomore Brady Tunison anchored the unit with a county-leading number of tackles, exemplifying the grit and determination that defined the team’s season. “We’re a senior-led team and have been together since freshman year, so our team chemistry was unmatched,” Starke explained.

Reflecting on his journey, Starke recounted starting as an undersized cornerback as a sophomore under the guidance of Coach Sanchez, a pivotal moment that ignited his rise. “One lesson I learned is to always believe in yourself,” he said. Among his most memorable moments, Starke recalled his game-winning forced fumble against Lakewood Ranch, a play that sparked the team's first win and set the tone for their successful season.

Despite his accolades, Starke remains humble and hungry, aspiring to play college football while pursuing a degree in sports medicine. “It truly is an honor to be recognized with the elite talent also running for Player of the Year,” he said. “It shows me that I can compete with whoever.”

This year's All-County list was compiled by Pinellas High School Media Group in collaboration with Green Zone Preps, celebrating the top high school football talent across the region.
