Wednesday Morning Quarterback

Aug 30, 2023
St.Pete Catholic Quarterback Kanon Vetter went 17-31 for 300 yards and 4 TDS in week 1

Top 10 Predictions

#1 CCC vs Ocala Trinity

Last year CCC lost to Ocala Trinity Catholic behind a marvelous performance from Jershaun Newton who had 204 yards passing and 191 yards rushing but Ocala's size and 222 yards from Beau Beard helped them overpower CCC. Honestly this year this game could go either way also but im going with the home team.

CCC-35 Trinity Catholic- 28

#2 CAI @ Orlando Edgewater

After an 0-2 start CAI has fallen to our #2 spot  and no further based on the fact that they lost to GREAT competition and has been without stud QB Evans Chuba. This has given junior running back Antwan Raymond a chance to show what he can do as he has combined for over 500 all purpose yards. Sean Sevillano and the defense has to continue to make strides and I think they will have an opportunity to do so against a Orlando Edgewater that runs a wildcat offense and is pretty fast. They are fast on defense as well but CAI was ranked #6 in the state for a reason. I like CAI

CAI -27 Edgewater-21

#3 Calvary vs St.John Paul

This will be our first showing of 4 pure quarters from Calvary led by Jacob Drackett, Sean Cuono and Josh Robinson. I expect a tough battle from St.John Paul who despite getting blown out by IMG had a big game from senior Tremaine Hughes Jr who 265 yards passing along with 145 yards rushing. Calvary held Mr.Hughes to 109 yards passing and 53 yards rushing last year and with leaders on defense Callahan Blair and Daylan Moore back , with a few early stops this game will have an opportunity to become another blowout as long as the star studded offense shows up.

Last year Sean Cuono had a field day against St.John Paul with 84 yards receiving and 128 yards rushing on 9 carries

Calvary 35 SJP- 14

Lakeland @ #4 Largo

We all know what Lakeland brings to the table, a star studded team of fast, strong D-1 prospects that have the potential to win a state championship. Since Clearwater and Censere Lee no team has been able to come close to beating the dreadnaughts and I hate to say this week probably wont be any different. I want Largo to win but this dreadnaughts team is coming off a loss to a talented Miami Norland team and they are hungry. Largo has the tools but I believe up front will become the challenge because even though they beat Pinellas Park I still believe that if PPark had a solid passing game it might have been a lil different. I like the superstars to show up for Largo but it wont be enough

Lakeland-43 Largo-17

#5 Northeast @ Clearwater

Northeast LB/DB Keontae Williams had a game winning int last week and will lead Northeast into Clearwater this week to show that last week was just the beginning

Northeast knocked off Lakewood as I predicted they would but there is still a lot of fine tuning left for Northeast to become a Pinellas powerhouse but for now they are Top 5 and with a couple more big wins they will be on the road to continuous success for the next few seasons. Northeast is a complete team but no question their skill players such as TJ Marshall, Jeremiah Jones and Keontae Williams will all have games where they will put up big numbers but big men like Treveon James will soon have their name announced a lot as well with big performances also. Clearwater is a team with a lot of potential and talent with Jarvis Boatwright and Top 25 player Ti'Lan McGee. Gage Nix is back this year after a strong playoff showing with the Lakewood Spartans but will the quarterback show up and with the loss of AJ Sattinger will the same TEAM show up

Northeast 22 Clearwater 13

Miami Palmetto @ #6 Lakewood

Lakewood looked solid last week and QB Nick Trier definitely looked the part with his arm and despite a few mistakes I think we saw a young, growing and talented team that if they can win out in the city can still win a few playoff games. Another tough schedule awaits them this season and this week gets no easier against a Palmetto team who narrowed out a victory against a solid Homestead team last week.  Palmetto didnt gain a lot of yards but their defense did not bend and Lakewood will have to be ready to sustain that.

Lakewood -7 Palmetto-28

#7 Palm Harbor @ #10 St Pete

Will Seibert looks to lead Palm Harbor to 2-0

Game of the week! Battle of two athletic quarterbacks who are developing their passing games but know how to use their team and legs very well in Jeff Jones and Will Seibert. Jeff Jones comes in as a POY Candidate and always willing to put the team on his back while Palm Harbor has a few more stars around Will Seibert with all purpose dynamo Gunner Fodor and Jake Rennart who showed up last year as a potential playmaker. There are two lineman who will possibly set the tempo on defense in Clifton Slone , St.Pete and Brady Messick, Palm Harbor and thats what this will boil down to. Slone is an impact player but he can only do so much while Messick has a little more surrounding talent with Gunner Fodor and Rennart also showing up on defense. This will be close

St.Pete-24 Palm Harbor- 27

#8 Osceola vs Dunedin

A bouneback win for Osceola!

Osceola- 35 Dunedin-3

Mitchell @ #9 East Lake

I wanna say this will be an easy win for East Lake but with them being so close in proximity Mitchell might show up. I dont want this to be an upset alert but the possibility is there. Lets go East Lake

East Lake-27 Mitchell-14

"This past Friday night we lost a shootout to bayshore. We are a young team and on Friday that seemed to have shown. we had simple mistakes on defense such as wrapping up and turnovers killed us. As a team to get to the level we hold ourselves to, we have to be mature. I liked what i saw offensively, we have some things to clean up in practice on both sides of the ball. We have tons of potential and i’m super excited for the season and blessed to be able to play with such a great group of guys. The coaching staff has done a tremendous job to get us mentally prepared we just have to translate that to field on Friday nights."

Goals for season:" As a team our goal is to make the playoffs,  we take each game week by week focus on the team we are set to play. Aside from football just growing together with such a great group of guy’s my personal goals are throwing 2500 yards, 30 Td’s 5 rushing and win at least 7 games and a playoff game, with the hope of getting recruited by a college team"
