Wednesday Morning Quarterback
As we head into Week 1 of the season we started off last week with a few preseason kickoff classics that set the tone on how good Pinellas County looks as a whole. Our #1 ranked team went down to Homestead and lost a nail biter to a tough team but it was a warmup and will be looked at as such. Our #2 team traveled to North Marion and handled business with player of the year candidate Jershaun Newton leading his team in the air and our #6 player Andy Jaffe returning a 90 yard touchdown showing why he is our highest rated defensive back and all around athlete. #3 Calvary and #5 Largo squared off to end their game with a tie and #4 Lakewood is starting to look as if they have some offensive woes to fix but we know Lakewood has the talent to turn up at any point in this season.
GAME OF THE WEEK: LAKEWOOD @ NORTHEAST
A game that will be a tone setter for both teams seasons, Lakewood heads to Northeast as a possible underdog against a stingy secondary and linebacker corp led by Derrick Brantley, TJ Marshall and Keontae Williams. The last two games for Lakewood which were Spring and the preseason classic last week showed that this isnt the same Lakewood team as last year but can the Spartans under Head Coach Corey Moore gel together to show the county that they are still the top dog. Lakewood has a 5 season county winning streak on the line in this game and with the addition of Nick Trier, our #5 QB but the departure of our #1 reciever Shamar Rigby its been hard to tell what offense we will get. On defense Armani Sullivan and Jeremy Willoughby will lead the charge and possibly show that the Spartans defense has not lost a step and is stingy as well. Mario Plummer leads the Northeast offense this year with his legs and arm but will it be enough?
Prediction: Northeast 22, Lakewood 19
