The battles in the trenches often go unnoticed by the casual fan, but a dominant defensive line can single-handedly win games. This season, Pinellas County boasts a formidable group of defensive linemen who are ready to cause havoc in opposing backfields. From powerful run-stuffers to explosive pass-rushers, here are our top 5 defensive linemen to watch.
1. Tyrique Harris, Clearwater Central Catholic

For the second consecutive season, Tyrique Harris of Clearwater Central Catholic is our #1 lineman. The Toledo commit's film speaks volumes, showcasing his explosive speed off the ball, which is arguably the best in the county. At a muscular 6'2" and 205 pounds, Harris is a versatile and athletic player who can put his hand in the dirt or stand up at defensive end. He can also drop back into pass coverage, making him a true threat on every down. Last season, he racked up an impressive 8 sacks, 79 tackles, and 6 tackles for loss. His list of offers included Georgia State, Appalachian State, Wake Forest, FIU, and FAU, solidifying his status as an elite prospect.
2. Jacquay Ferguson Jr, Northside Christian

At #2 is Northside Christian Mustang Jac'quay Ferguson, a UConn commit who was a highly sought-after prospect. Standing at a good size of 6'4" and 245 pounds, Ferguson covers a lot of ground quickly. He is a disruptive force in the trenches whose impact goes beyond the stat sheet; he frequently disrupts passers and makes running backs change direction. When he can't get to the quarterback, he has a knack for blocking passes. Last season, he had 6 sacks, 49 tackles, and 15 tackles for loss, and he held offers from West Virginia, Eastern Michigan, USF, and the University of Georgia before his commitment.
3. Johnny Williams, Lakewood High School

Lakewood's new big man in the trenches, Johnny Williams, comes in at #3. Formerly of Northeast High School, the 6'0", 260-pound defensive lineman is a powerful run-stuffer with a quicker step and active hands. Joining our #1-ranked team, Williams has a chance to have a great season in a highly competitive atmosphere. His presence will be a great asset in the postseason for the Spartans. Last season for Northeast, he had 60 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks.
4. Treveon James, Clearwater High School

At #4 is Treveon James, another former Northeast High School player who is now a key part of the Clearwater High School defense. Standing at 6'2" and 300 pounds, James is a big, strong run-stuffer who has the potential to compete for the #1 spot later in the season with some polishing. He is a true presence in the middle of the defensive line who demands attention. Last season, he recorded 59 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks, and he holds an offer from FAMU.
5. Adrian Hilliard, Osceola High School
